Steady progress continues on the Wharton Street Revitalization Project. Several key features have been completed in recent weeks, and more exciting improvements are underway as construction advances.
Recent Highlights
Here’s a look at some of the work recently completed:
- Benches have been installed in the Memorial Park cenotaph plaza
- Electrical crossing across Rosedale Avenue is complete
- Curbs have been poured on Wharton Street east of Kelly Avenue
- Sod has been installed in Memorial Park
- Line painting on Wharton Street and Kelly Avenue is complete
- A new fire hydrant has been installed at the Summerland Museum
Ongoing Work
Significant work is also taking place at the new Veterans Memorial Square (formerly named Henry Avenue Plaza), located between Main Street and Wharton Street. Pavers have been installed and concrete work is complete in preparation for the installation of tables and benches.
Other ongoing work includes:
- Installation of electrical infrastructure on Smith Street and Armstrong Avenue
- Planting along the multi-use path and the Memorial Park Plaza
- Installation of street lights
Remembrance Day
The cenotaph plaza in Memorial Park will be open to the public for the November 11th Remembrance Day ceremony. A portion of Veterans Memorial Square will also be open and visitors can check out the work completed so far.
Please note that Wharton Street remains closed to vehicle traffic, with alternative parking locations available nearby.
