Exciting progress is happening on the Wharton Street Revitalization Project as construction nears completion. Here’s what’s new:
Veteran’s Memorial Square
Veteran’s Memorial Square (formerly Henry Avenue Plaza) is nearly finished. Half of the area is open for visitors to enjoy, including the new busking stage and seating area. Some work is still underway, and progress will depend on weather conditions as we approach the winter season. Ongoing work includes:
- Continued brickwork and planting
- Installation of more tables and benches
- Installation of washrooms (expected early December)
General project updates
- All street lights have been installed
- Planting along Wharton Street and the multi-use pathway is complete
- Some plantings will occur in Spring 2026 to allow for optimal growing conditions
- Electrical work off Wharton Street near the George Ryga Arts & Cultural Centre is ongoing
- Electrical work and paving along Smith Avenue and Armstrong Avenue are complete
- Work continues on the electrical substation near the intersection of Prairie Valley Road and Armstrong Avenue
What’s next?
The majority of construction is expected to be complete by the second week of December, weather permitting. We appreciate the community’s patience as we complete the final touches on this exciting project.
